Catching Sundown

Peter C. Leverich
Xlibris$20.00
Hardcover, (67 pp)

Peter C. Leverich takes us along with him as he travels the waters of Long Island. We, as Long Islanders, know these waters and the life living in it, the wildlife that inhibits the shoreline, and the sky. Peter’s poetry lifts us up and enables us too to soar with his poem, Terns. We are swept up in the excitement of their frenzied fishing and their bursting from the blue over the bay.We can taste the Clams on the Half Shell as the gulls crack open their tasty treats. Some of us know the sound of the shells hitting the pavement, maybe experienced one hitting our windshield as we drove wondering where did that come from? Who among us has not waited for the Oracle; the heron, to give us at least one answer as we sit at the shore watching her wade, while she waits for fish or for enlightenment? Sandpipers holds a true, clear voice of a Long Islander who has learned to live side-by-side with nature, respecting the smallest of Nature’s creations. A Week on the Bay, Equinox, Snowbound, Dwelling in Cedars, and Tacking Towards Home all speak from a sea-lover’s heart. How can we live on this island, this Long Island, and not have a love affair with the sea? The title poem, Catching Sundown, is poignant as it is the heart of the book. It gives us, the reader, a glimpse into the man who was the founder and CEO of a computer software company; but while dealing in nanotechnogy his heart was sailing, sailing the waters of our spiritual sound! Can you hear him? Just open the pages and your heart and listen.
